Pop-Up Inspo | #IWD2018

Today is a very important day.

International Women's Day. A day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Many of my social media feeds have been filled with congratulations to all the women in the world, images of protest signs, and quotes for equality and women's rights.

I am going to take today to be grateful for all the wonderful and amazing women I know. My mother, aunts, cousins, grandmothers. And all the caretakers, dancers, athletes, rappers, sawyers, teachers, pilots, bartenders, and business owners in my life. You are more than just a career or job position though - you are everything.

You are caring, courageous, a go-getter, smart, compassionate, kind, supportive, funny, strong, creative - whoever you want you to be.

I believe breaking away from gender norms is a pivotal part of our progress in equality. And that should continue.

You are not one thing or another. Being a girl does not mean you are fragile and proper, and being attracted to other women does not mean you are "butch" (ugh, I dislike stereotypes and gender norms).

We do not have to be either feminine or masculine.

We are a balance of both.

My badass friend Lynnie Hafele says it beautifully:

"I believe all women have a light and a dark. The depth and the surface. The desire to be pampered and to get dirty. The drive for a career and to create a nurturing home. The passion to love others without barriers, and the savage to crush any non-sisterhood feminine. The power to be soft and hard. Desirable and scary. Young and wise. Playful and fierce. The queen and the servant. The creative, business woman. The teacher and the student. I believe there is a female feminine and masculine in all of us. The balance of these is our true nature. A woman can find her truth in nature; in the mother where all things flourish and destroy."

Let us celebrate women around the world and the achievements that have been made and will continue to be made. Let us also empower every woman today and every single day. To be kind and lift one another up. And to worship ourselves - the feminine and the masculine. We are all a mix of experiences, values, beliefs, and styles - let us appreciate every single unique soul we encounter and already have in our lives.

This post is featured on Medium as well: "Empowering the Feminine & Masculine Female" - show it some love por favor!

Epilogue

Below you will find images that capture my feminine & masculine soul;
the creative & the business woman, playful & fierce, the desire to be pampered & to get dirty, the good and the bad hair days - the balance that makes me ME. And of course fantastic quotes.

It is time that we all see gender as a spectrum instead of two sets of opposing ideals. We should stop defining each other by what we are not and start defining ourselves by who we are.

Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong.

Gender equality not only liberates women but also men from prescribed gender stereotypes.

BE KIND, OPEN-MINDED & MOST IMPORTANTLY - YOU!

Until next time my beautiful people.
